Give Out But Don't Give Up is the fourth studio album by Scottish rock band Primal Scream. It was released on 28 March 1994 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records and in the United States by Sire Records. Musically, it marked a massive departure from the psychedelic sound of their previous studio album Screamadelica (1991) into one influenced by classic rock and blues music. Its cover photo is a cropped version of Troubled Waters by seminal American photographer William Eggleston.
Primal Scream are to release the original ‘Memphis Recordings’ that eventually became their 1994 album Give Out But Don’t Give Up as a 2CD or 2LP vinyl set. Give Out But Don’t Give Up: The Original Memphis Recordings is a document of the sessions with Tom Dowd and the Muscle Shoals rhythm section (David Hood (bass) and Roger Hawkins (drums)). This release might make sense of what seemed flawed at the time. PS releases in the 90’s seemed to be mixtape affairs, but sometimes with poor tracklistings. Good of the Scream to give us a less expensive way of acquiring these than as discs 3&4 of an SDE with a double vinyl album and a big book and a poster. Not that I’d be opposed to that either you understand.
Формируйте собственную /коллекция/ коллекцию записей Primal Scream. This is all fine, and yes, obviously it's largely a big improvement on much of the original 1994 version of the album . You can't make up for lack of substance in the songwriting department by blowing magic Memphis smoke on that outfit. It doesn't make it fit the group, it just makes it smell smoky.
Back in 1993, Primal Scream went to Memphis’ Ardent Studios to work on a new album with producer Tom Dowd and the Muscle Shoals rhythm section. The band later rebuilt those songs with a new producer, George Drakoulias, and those re-workings eventually became their 1994 album, Give Out But Don’t Give Up. Following the recently discovery of the original recordings in a box in Andrew Innes’ basement, Primal Scream has announced that they will release the scrapped recordings for the first time in a new album. Give Out But Don’t Give Up: The Original Memphis Sessions is due out October 12 via Sony.
