Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is the debut album by the band of the same name, released on November 9, 1976 by Shelter Records. The album was recorded and mixed at the Shelter Studio in Hollywood, California. Initially following its release, the album received little attention in the United States.

Playback is a box set compilation by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released in 1995. It contains popular album tracks, B-sides, previously unreleased outtakes, and early songs by Petty's previous band Mudcrutch. A companion VHS home video, later released on DVD, was also released, featuring the band's most popular music videos to date. Disc one: The Big Jangle. Disc two: Spoiled & Mistreated. Disc three: Good Booty.

Coming along in 1976, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were part of a movement back to basic, pop-oriented rock & roll that has proven to be the most lasting legacy of a decade otherwise given over to such stylistic flameouts as disco and punk. Even when abbreviating each of their first nine studio albums to four-to-six cuts (and throwing in a few stray tunes from the live album, the hits album, and a Christmas compilation), the songs break down into the hits and the also-rans.

21, 1995, Tom Petty's six-CD boxed set 'Playback' perfectly encapsulated his years on MC. Why stop with a little old greatest-hits record when you've got six entire discs worth of goodness stored up in your vaults? Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers answered that question with Playback, a comprehensive - and impressively solid - look back at 20 years of rock and roll. Released Nov. 20, 1995, Playback arrived a little over a year after Petty bolted his longtime label home, MCA, to release Wildflowers under a new contract at Warner Bros. and roughly two years after Petty and the Heartbreakers closed the book on their MCA years with their 12-times-platinum Greatest Hits record

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Redirected from Nobody's Children (album)). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (alternately Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) were an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. Formed in 1976, the band originally comprised Tom Petty (lead singer, guitar), Mike Campbell (lead guitarist), Ron Blair (bass guitar), Stan Lynch (drums), and Benmont Tench (keyboards)

Title: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Playback (Video 1995). Cameron Crowe has an early stab at directing with the video for 'Change Of Heart', which is presented in a mix that sounds more direct and exciting than the album mix, and the ever-alluring Stevie Nicks makes a guest appearance in the haunting 'Insider'

Petty and the Heartbreakers are known for hit singles such as "American Girl", "Breakdown", "The Waiting", "Learning to Fly", "Refugee" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance". While the heartland rock movement fizzled in the 1990s, the band remained active and popular. They still tour regularly and continue to record albums. Their most recent, Hypnotic Eye, was released on July 25, 2014. charts, where it climbed to in 1978 and eventually went Gold. Welcome to Your Dreams (live) released: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released: Hypnotic Eye. Released 2014.
