The Drottningholm Palace (Swedish: Drottningholms slott) is the private residence of the Swedish royal family. It is located in Drottningholm. Built on the island Lovön (in Ekerö Municipality of Stockholm County), it is one of Sweden's Royal Palaces. Both Oscar I and Oscar II were criticized for modernizing the palace and adjusting it to contemporary fashion rather than restoring it to its original state, and it was not until the reign of Gustav V that the palace and surroundings were reconstructed to their 18th-century appearance Royal residence. The current Swedish royal family have used Drottningholm as their primary residence since 1981.

Today, Gamla Stan connects the northern district of Norrmalm with the southern district of Södermalm (to which Gamla Stan belongs administratively). Gamla Stan is located on an island named Stadsholmen, though one rarely finds the name on maps. The house now belongs to the Swedish Academy (Svenska Akademien). Their members meet here, in the Bellman Salong, every Thursday evening, to eat and perhaps to discuss the next Nobel Prize for Literature. Stockholm Old Town walking tour.

Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish Royal Family since 1981, is located here. The village was planned and built in the mid 18th century for the people working at the palace. It is a good example of how a Swedish village would have looked like in the 18th and 19th centuries, containing many picturesque houses and villas.
