Bubbi Morthens (born 6 June 1956) is an Icelandic singer and songwriter. Born Ásbjörn Kristinsson Morthens in Reykjavík, he is known as "Bubbi", a common nickname for Ásbjörn. Aside from a lengthy solo career, he has been a member of such Icelandic bands as Utangarðsmenn and Egó. Morthens recorded his first solo album in 1979, a blend of rock, blues and reggae, and published it the following year as Ísbjarnarblús.
Bubbi – Í Skugga Morthens. When migrant fish worker Bubbi Morthens decided in late 1979 to record his debut album, Ísbjarnarblús (1980), he had no idea how much impact it would have. He started out to make an acoustic blues album, but inspired by Iggy Pop and other new-wave artists, the album's style changed considerably during the sessions. There were few musical innovations on Ísbjarnarblús, but the lyrics were revolutionary. Bubbi wrote uncompromisingly about the injustices of Icelandic society, particularly in regards to fish industry- and migrant workers. Label: Skífan – SMC 159. Format: Cassette, Album.
