Amplifier Worship is the second album by Japanese band Boris. Excluding the "one-long-song" albums, this is one of only two Boris full-lengths to have vocals on every song (the other being 2008's Smile), and the first time that Takeshi performed lead vocals for the band (although Atsuo performs lead vocals on "Huge"). Vomitself" was written and laid down separately at Sound Square while the other four songs were recorded at Sound Crew.

Then I heard Amplifier Worship and lost myself in a more digital sense, as if my particles were broken down, spaghettified, and locked into the grooves that emerged out of the drone. I cannot name another album that successfully leads me on a journey, carrying my further away from my starting point with each repetitious sonic step from the rhythm and guitar; the subtle deviations and sky-cracking solos will forever be carved in my memory. I like Boris because of their aesthetic. It's different than Electric Wizard - Dopethrone.

An iconoclastic sacrificial appeasement to the gods of rock n roll, or a tongue-in-cheek jab at an anonymous group of bowel-churning, droning fools who named themselves after their amps" Theres an old horror movie directed by the brilliant David Cronenberg called The Brood that draws an excellent comparison to this album, which can be used to explain this. In this motion picture, a young woman undergoes intense therapy that causes her inner rage to manifest itself in physical form

Amplifier Worship is the second studio album by Japanese experimental band Boris. Released in November 1998 via indie label Mangrove the band maintained an abrasive sound of drone doom and sludge but interlacing elements of psychedelic, trance and a more up-tempo sound into their music.

Amplifier Worship" is a wondrous, mind-numbing onslaught of guitar tone at its most heavy. It is also a complex and very progressive album, and this is what separates Boris from the rest of the doom/drone/stoner field - their ability to utilise extreme doom and drone amidst various contrasting genres. The bookends to the album, "Huge" and "Vomitself" are pure unabashed outings into heaviness - the former is an abrasive and threatening opening, fully equipped with lumbering doom grooves, shrieked vocals and slogging drone blasts.

Amplifier Worship, in my eyes, is easily the best thing Boris have done. And because Boris, even at their worst or least imaginative, are probably the best thing to come out of Japan, musically, that's saying quite a lot. When listening to Boris, I started at a weird place (2007's Smile), and then worked my way back here for my second taster, so that may have influenced my view on this album, since Smile wasn't TOO great. Regardless, it'll always have a special place in my CD rack. Honestly, the album just sounds like the best bits of the Melvins songs Honey Bucket, Boris (obviously) and Lysol strung together, and spread out over an hour. If you're not a fan of the genre, it might get repetetive.
