Hadeon is the eighth studio album by Dutch technical death metal band Pestilence. It was released digitally on 26 January 2018, nearly two months ahead of its scheduled release date; a physical component of the album was released on 9 March 2018. Hadeon is the band's first since album since their two-year hiatus from 2014 to 2016, and the first one since Malleus Maleficarum (1988) not to feature longtime lead and rhythm guitarist Patrick Uterwijk.
Pestilence released their debut album, Malleus Maleficarum, in 1988, further refining their approach to thrash metal, and becoming leading in the genre, being seen as one of the most intense and brutal bands. In 1989 released their second album, Consuming Impulse, a big turn towards the then buzzing Death Metal scene. Pestilence had extremely strong material ready and recorded a full new album titled Hadeon in Spacelab Studios in Germany in the Summer of 2017. This album will be released March 2018, as a follow up to the promised old school tour across Europe in January/February 2018.
Once upon a time, Pestilence were known as one of the frontrunners for death metal's most forward-thinking, progressive and experimental recesses. That time was 25 years ago, back when Spheres was as much derided for its bizarreness as it was beloved for its uniqueness. Since the reformation of the band in 2008, it would appear that Pestilence have slowly but surely been forgotten about, in no small part due to the explosion and hype-ridden current state of technical death metal and progressive metal: Surely two styles which owe it all to Pestilence's work in the early 90s.

The fourth Pestilence album since Patrick revived his band in 2008, Hadeon sounds as timely and subtly prescient as you might expect from such a creatively restless figure. This is polished and punchy modern death metal, but still underpinned by the Dutchman’s instinctive knack for textural and melodic disruption. Songs like Manifestations and Electro Magnetic exhibit plenty of old-school grit and spiky melodic motifs that reek of the early 90s, but there’s always something dissonant, disorientating or otherworldly lurking in the sonic background.
