One of Latin music’s most timeless boleros was penned by a Panamanian composer, initially popularized by a Cuban singer Leo Marini and then taken even further by Argentine Libertad Lamarque, who also starred in the Mexican film of the same name. The 1971 track of the album by the same name has been voted the best pop song in Spain in two different polls. 31. "Ahora Quien" - Marc Anthony Writers: Estéfano, Julio Reyes. Oye Como Va, penned by master timbalero Tito Puente, was all about the beat when he recorded it in 1963 ( Oye como va, mi ritmo, bueno pa’ bailar, mulata - Listen to my rhythm, great to dance to, mulatta). It was a pulsating cha-cha-cha that got new life in Santana’s epic 1970 cover, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, and continues to be a Latin standard today.

With Oye Como Va, Santana successfully set the stage for the Seventies salsa movement and the wider Latin music explosion. Like Dylan did for Hendrix, Puente ceded his most famous song to Santana: Beautiful Santana, says Puente during the intro to Oye Como Va, on his 1999 live album, Mambo Birdland.

Oye Como Va" is a song written by Latin jazz and mambo musician Tito Puente in 1962. Mexican-American rock group Santana's rendition further popularized the song, which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 11 on the Billboard Easy Listening survey, and number 32 on the R&B chart. The title comes from the first words, which can be translated as "Listen to how goes" or "Hey, how is it going".
