During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558–1603), English art and high culture reached a pinnacle known as the height of the English renaissance. Elizabethan music experienced a shift in popularity from sacred to secular music and the rise of instrumental music. Professional musicians were employed by the Church of England, the nobility, and the rising middle-class. Elizabeth I was very fond of music and played the lute and virginal among others

Their debut, Livin' in Elizabethan Times, centers around a first contact/invasion scenario which plays out loosely over four long tracks, clocking in at just under a half-hour. While the sci-fi concept allows for some pleasingly acerbic lyrical jabs at humanity, it also provides a worthy vehicle for the duo's extremely fun, melodic, and trippy electro-psych shenanigans. Mason's knack for tuneful payoffs manifests itself on the excellent opener "This One's for the Humans," whose structure shifts deftly between its moody guitar motif and big lush chorus.

9 The Arts in the Elizabethan World. During the early Renaissance, an era spanning from the fourteenth century to the seventeenth century, the arts in Europe blossomed into bold new forms, blending the philosophy and creative forms of the ancient civilizations of Rome and Greece with contemporary European style. Music with many voices; or the mixing together of several melodic lines at the same time in a musical composition. Various new musical instruments-the early violin, the harpsichord and virginal, the oboe (a reed instrument), and others-were being used in combination to produce complex sounds. This type of musical arrangement was called polyphony, which means many voices, or the mixing together of several melodic lines at the same time.

One of the Museum's great Elizabethan treasures, this book of armour designs charts some of the most spectacular armour ever made. His armours are some of the most flamboyant in the album. The Almain Armourers' Album offers a vivid glimpse into the world of courtly loyalty, entertainment and rivalry in Elizabethan England. Decorated with bands of etching, blued and gilt, matched with richly coloured silks and velvets, with dyed ostrich feathers sprouting from the helmet, on a horse armed to match, these extraordinary armours turned their owners into works of art.

The tones and warmth achieved are both illuminating of the sound-world and deeply enjoyable as an entertainment. 6 people found this helpful.
