North and South is the sixth studio album by Gerry Rafferty. It was Rafferty's first studio album in six years and reunited him with producer Hugh Murphy. The album was released as an LP and CD in 1988. One of the singles was "Shipyard Town", also released on several compilation albums

North & South ‎(LP, Club). The very first time I bought this album, there was a unique half-second intro to "Tired of Talking" but because the album was not in the greatest condition, I bought another--one that turned out NOT to have that "Tired of Talking" intro, nor have the several copies I have bought since. Does anyone reading this know what I'm writing about, and if so, how I can obtain another "North & South" LP with that extra half-minute? fab4caspero. Reply See 1 reply Notify me Helpful.

He might not have made that much, but it's clear from the casual, relaxed vibe of 1988's North & South that Rafferty is a man with little to prove and no concern as to whether his sound is particularly commercially viable. As a result, North & South sounds remarkably like Mark Knopfler's post-"Money for Nothing" records. The title track and the slide guitar-enhanced "Hearts Run Dry" are particularly Dire Straits-like.

For his self-titled album, see Gerry Rafferty (album). Gerald "Gerry" Rafferty (16 April 1947 – 4 January 2011) was a Scottish rock singer-songwriter known for his solo hits "Baker Street", "Right Down the Line" and "Night Owl", as well as "Stuck in the Middle with You", recorded with the band Stealers Wheel. Rafferty performing at Dublin's National Stadium on 6 September 1980 In 1980, Rafferty and Murphy produced a record for Richard and Linda Thompson; though never released, it eventually evolved into their album Shoot Out the Lights. The 1982 album Sleepwalking saw Rafferty taking a very different approach to his work.

Sleeve with lyrics. 835449-1 written in top right corner on front sleeve.

Apparently one of the first albums to include an email address. It looks very short by today's standards.
